Former Governor of Jigawa State was shocked beyond words yesterday when a Federal High court sitting in Kano asked that the former Governor and his two sons who were accused of fraud be remanded in prison till the next court sitting which will come up on September 28 which will automatically make him spend two months and a half in prison without bail.

As the court rose, the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Mr Solomon Akpedah ushered him and his two sons into a waiting van which will take them to the Kano central prison, the former Governor then exclaimed: “You mean I am now a prisoner”? The Deputy Chief Registrar who was kind, however tried to calm him down saying “No Sir, you are not a prisoner”, as they were all made to enter the van.

White Man Turns Black After Liver Transplant

A fair-skinned man, who was given a liver transplant from an African-American donor, claims the operation is turning him black, Krasnodar, Russia.

Semen Gendler urgently needed a liver transplant after being diagnosed with hepatitis C and cancer.

As a transplant was his only hope, the man immediately went to America, where he was offered the liver of a 38-year-old African-American man.

The life-saving operation, which cost him around $500,000, was successful and after awhile Gendler returned home.

Several months later his friend noticed some skin colour transformations in Semen.

He said: “I noticed that his skin was getting darker. When he told me they had given him the liver of an African-American man, I guessed that was probably the reason for the colour change.

I have known my friend for years and he has always been, if anything, extremely pale. Now for the first time ever he is becoming dark-skinned.”

While beign a little surprised with his skin colour changes Semen didn’t seem to care much about it.

He said: “I could end up much darker than this to be honest, I don’t care. The main thing is that the liver works and I am healthy.

It’s incredible, I am now so full of energy and living between two cities in New York and Krasnodar – and if my skin ends up dark, who cares. I certainly don’t.”

Similarly in the case at hand Keshi has breached the mutual confidence and trust imposed on him by the contract with NFF by applying for the vacant position in the Les Elephants of Ivory Coast without seeking the consent of his employers.

Politicians often try to outdo each other by making promises they can’t keep and do not intend to keep, in order to win votes before an election. That is just how politics works around the world.

That is what happened this year too when we had the presidential election. Both former president, Goodluck Jonathan and incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari, made outrageous promises as they campaigned round the country.

A lot of those promises were unrealistic and some even egregious, like when the All Peoples’ Congress (APC) promised to create three million jobs in a year. But at the time people really wanted a change and so they voted for them anyway.

The president might make things better before his tenure ends in four years, but he’ll probably never fulfil most of the promises he and his party made to the people in the campaigns. Look at these six promises for instance.

1. Create 720,000 jobs in one year.
Muhammadu Buhari promised to create 20,000 jobs per state in a year for people with basic education. It is obvious now that the government does not have a clear plan as to how they are going to accomplish this ambitious goal.

It is almost two months already since they took charge and yet they have not rolled out any job program that could whip up 720,000 jobs nationwide.

If you want to create nearly a million jobs within a year, you don’t wait half the time before you come up with a program.

It is very clear that the government has no serious intention to pursue this jobs goal and that they will not produce 720,000 jobs this year or the next.

2. Pay N5,000 monthly to the 25 million poorest Nigerians.
Let us do the quick maths first. That’s N125 billion every month and N1.5 trillion for a year. That’s a load of money.

First up, how does the government intend to determine the 25 million poorest who will be receiving the aid? In a country where records are mostly unreliable and anyone can easily dupe the system, attempting to throw N1.5 trillion around the country is a fantasy program that will never get off the ground, except you fix the system first.

The money is probably just going to end up in the wrong pockets and not reach the poorest people who really need the money. That is just it.

3. Provide one meal a day to pupils nationwide.
Osun state governor, Aregbesola, gave one meal a day to pupils in state schools during his first term and he got a lot popular for it among his people. It was a good populist program that became a hit and so the APC decided to promise it to the Nigerian people.

But today the Osun government is broke and the kids aren’t getting a lot of free meals these days. The program has proven to be unsustainable on a state level.

Now think about what it would be like if the federal government decides to feed kids in every federal government primary school in the country. We are talking about tens of millions of mouths to feed every single day. This is a ridiculous idea.

4. Pay unemployed graduates a grant till they get a job.
A lot of people who finish school and complete the youth service don’t get a job soon after. They have to get-bye for some time until they find a decent employment.

So the APC promised a regular grant to unemployed graduates to support them while they look for work or get some training. It is certainly a brilliant initiative — on paper.

The problem is we simply do not have a system where these things can be properly run. When you put a youth on a temporary grant pending, how do you know when he finally gets a job so you can stop his grant? People would just go on taking the free money until the government gives up and closes the program.

This unemployment grant was all just sweet talk, but at least it is less ridiculous than promising to feed tens of millions of kids every day.

5. Create one million housing units for people with low income.
Just imagine one million new housing units in this country. It will take years just for first level planning and then take more years to actually build the houses.

That is if the government really wants to build the houses, and if it it does, the government clearly cannot achieve it in four years. You don’t have to be a building expert to see that this promise is unrealistic.

6. Provide free tertiary education to students in certain fields.
Before the election, no one was talking about free education except the APC. People wanted government to improve the quality of education while still making it affordable for the Nigerian people. But Buhari and the APC said their government will foot tuitions for students in science, technology, engineering, maths and education.

Today, no one is talking about free education. Not even the APC.

The government needs to stop proposing fantastic ideas that are never going to get off the ground. That’s not what the Nigerian people really want.

What the people really want is a visible improvement in the country, and if President Buhari does not make it happen, it won’t be very long before they stand up to him as they did to the last president.

Freelance reporter Austin Edoho sent in the report. Read below...

Fatimah Ibrahim is a 39 year old widow, a mother of two, from Borno state. A chance encounter with her on the street would most certainly portray her as just one of the thousands of ordinary women walking the streets of Lagos. But meeting her at a building site would startlingly reveal the other side of her! This woman is a professional painter, tiler, and plumber! When asked how and why she entered into professions dominated by men, she had this to say,
“I have always loved painting .My friend’s husband who is a painter taught me how to paint, and I started painting even when my husband was alive. Later, I picked interest in tiling and plumbing profession, and I went for the training. Right now, after my husband’s death, I am proud to say I am a professional painter, tiler, and plumber. To me being a woman doesn’t really matter”

As must be expected, Fatimah is confronted with some challenges which centers mainly on gender disparity. “It’s been hard getting work. Some people give me jobs to do, and they are never disappointed; but others are just reluctant to trust me with their buildings, because they still find it difficult to believe the fact that a woman can do these jobs, and even do them better than men

"She called on the public and the government to give her contracts and test her level of capability. She also stressed that these were her means of livelihood. “I am a widow. I have two children aged 13 and 9.I am not begging the public for food, as I have been blessed with the means of providing for my children. All I am asking if for Individuals, contractors, Government to give me jobs so I can make money and take care of my children and other widows who are not so fortunate to have vocations like mine”

Joshua have taken to Facebook to express their dismay and disgust at the controversial verdict released by the Lagos coroner's court which ruled the fatal collapse of a building at the cleric's church last year was due to structural defaults.

"Do you know what this verdict will cost Nigerians both at home and abroad," wrote a fan from America who gave his name as 'Freedom'. "The Nigerian government should know the whole world has seen the footage of what happened in the incident. You cannot hide the truth."
"I am a lawyer and I must say that indeed the coroner panel was biased," wrote John Mooney, an Australian. "The Lord shall vindicate you and the entire church," he added, commenting on the official statement released by The SCOAN which rejected the coroner's outcome as 'one-sided' and 'unreasonable'.

Morcie Tulloch, a Jamaican, stated, "This attack on your ministry is an indication that you are impacting the kingdom of darkness not only with your deliverance and healing ministries but your love and care for the poor and suffering."

"What else do we expect from the so called coroner," wrote Peter from United Kingdom."The same people who masterminded the controlled demolition of the SCOAN guest house are also behind the coroner's unholy verdict," he adamantly assisted.

John Parker, an American, stated, "The truth will eventually be revealed and may God have mercy on those who would bear false witness against a man of God!"

"Why is a bombed building said to have collapsed due to poor workmanship," commented Zgambo Binford, a Kenyan based Malawian. "I now see why us Africans are 1000s of years behind Westerners."

Dee Kivido from Holland was insistent that it was not a case of structural failure. "The way that building came down is CLEAR to anyone even with minimum construction knowledge that it was not caused by structural defects," she stated. "I am a woman in construction and can attest to this."

"Nigeria should know that human rights activists will not rest this case until justice is done,"added Matt Weller, a social activist from Germany. "The Nigerian government will be made to pay for this monumental cover-up," he heatedly declared.

"This is further proof that the church is being attacked by darkness throughout the world,"wrote American Cindi Sherstad, comparing The SCOAN verdict with the recent decision of the US Supreme Court to approve same-sex marriage.

"I pray that calmness shall come over this situation," wrote Christian-Elizbe van Schalkwyk from South Africa, assuring Joshua that South Africans were behind him and his ministry.

115 people perished, the majority of them being foreign pilgrims, when a guesthouse within The SCOAN collapsed on September 12th 2014. Joshua has maintained his stance that the church was attacked.

A new mom has spoken of her horror after her baby son was taken from her home by officials and given to an adoptive mother - despite the fact she had changed her mind before the infant's birth.
According to Kim, Donna also told her that:

"She had 'the perfect' Mom in mind for me. She was single, very wealthy, from Birmingham, and was someone who would like an open adoption. She said things like Christmas and birthdays, we could do together. She also said she had other families seeking to adopt, but none who had quite as much money as Kate."

Kate (Katherine Gilliard Sharp of Birmingham) called Kim the following day and they arranged a meeting two days later.

"I liked her. I liked that she was single and a powerful business woman. I also could tell she really wanted to be a Mom. I really liked the idea of giving her my baby. I hadn't even felt the baby move yet and it seemed a relief to be able to tell Greg about my choice and to have a plan. I was exhausted from fear, tired of the endless texts and threats from Greg, and glad I could do something special for this stranger, who somehow didn't really feel a stranger at all. She talked a good bit about her family and loving parents who she had pictures of. The idea of giving him storybook grandparents and private school seemed surreal. Kate talked about hiring a Spanish nanny because she really wanted her child to be bilingual. It sounded like the movies. I was sold."

Kim told Donna she liked Kate, and Donna assured her she would take care of:

"...all the legal stuff and paperwork and for me not to worry. We met to go over my allowance that she referred to as 'my monthly gift.' She wrote down my expenses, including phone and car, even though I specifically stated I did not currently have a car and that I was on Greg's cell phone plan. She said, it's ok-you can use if for something else, we just have to put a figure here for the judge to approve you getting money. Naïve, I said ok and trusted her...."

Herein lies one of the most troubling adoption practices in American domestic adoption. Most every state allows for prospective adopters to pay expectant mothers' expenses. These include living expenses, such as rent, medical, clothing allowances, and transportation. Judges decide upon a "reasonable" amount.
In February 2015, Donna prepared a budget for Kim's monthly allowance or "gift" as Donna called it.

"Before I ever felt my baby move, Kate, Donna and I went before a judge where I signed a pre-birth agreement. That day, the judge, his explanation, it all felt like a routine court proceeding. I know the judge told me I had five days to change my mind after birth, and Donna told me before and after that day, that nothing was final until the baby was born, and this court proceeding was the way to secure my 'monthly gift'."

Judge Don Davis approved a monthly allowance and plans progressed.

"Kate quickly became something like a sister/friend. We texted multiple times a day, every day. We talked about the baby and I began confiding in her about my emotions related to the adoption. I felt myself growing depressed and found myself sleeping day in and out, crying about what life would look like once I gave my baby away. The baby was moving quite a bit, and I began allowing myself some thoughts to consider what being a Mom would look like. It was a war in my head. I could hear Greg and many before him telling me I am worthless, a step mother telling me I would never be good for anything or anybody and Kate -- I really loved the idea of my 'selfless' act giving her what she always wanted, to be a mother. But then I had parts of me saying: 'You can do this'; 'You don't have to pay for private school to be a good Mamma'; 'This is going to be hard-but you are going to do this.' The conflict within became so intense that I knew I needed help. These weeks were so dark, all I could think was 'I hope I die in labor but my son lives. Kate will be happy and I won't feel the pain.'

"I confided in Kate about my depressed thinking, and constant crying. I couldn't keep food down, had little appetite, and leaned on her for every bit of encouragement I could get. ...Kate would text with me in the wee hours of the morning when I could not sleep, comforting me, telling me I was going to be okay, etc. I mentioned to her I think I needed a counselor and she said she would reach out to Donna to see if she could find me one."

Kate and Donna found Kim a counselor who helped her sort out her anxieties and fears. She began to address issues of self-esteem and get in touch with her self-worth, regardless of whether she chose to parent or place her son for adoption. Her depression lifted and she began to see parenting as a real possibility. Her only fear now was hurting Kate, whom she had grown to care about.

"I could not bear the thought of letting [Kate] down. She had been so good to me and I really liked her.
"For many therapy sessions we talked about the practical steps I needed to take to be able to parent; how to cope with Greg in a co-parenting venture. I even had him come to a therapy session to discuss the possibility.... He came and was very hostile and said he would sign his rights away if I chose to parent....
"Kate came to my Dr.'s appointments and every time I saw her, I would get more confused. The war in my mind kept fighting."

Upon securing a good housing situation with a friend, and knowing that she could return to her job in daycare and take her baby with her, Kim knew in March 2015 that she was ready, able and wanting to maintain her role as mother of her yet-unborn son.

"I chose to parent. It felt right and good. Though scared and feeling incredible responsibility for Kate, I knew this is what I wanted and was determined to give my son what he needed."

"I am worried about the insurgence of the Boko Haram activities in Nigeria. Shortly before the inauguration of the present government, the country had almost rolled back Boko Haram and its activities in every part of Nigeria, from Adamawa to Borno to Yobe. I was hoping that when we come back in the 8th Assembly, that I will work with our colleagues from the North-East to develop a plan of action that will help to rehabilitate that part of Nigeria. I feel so concerned about the suffering of our people from the North-East of Nigeria. I had hoped that by now we would be tasking ourselves on how best to rebuild that part of Nigeria. Regrettably the actions of Boko Haram seems to have resurfaced now not only in Borno, they have carried out their activities also in Plateau, they have gone to Adamawa, Kaduna. I am worried that if nothing is done, the next target would be Abuja. Maybe they start going to South. It is important for us as those in government, whether Executive or Legislature, to come together to find solutions to these problems.” he told newsmen (Punch)

The new cases come two weeks after a 17 year old boy died from the deadly viral disease on June 28th. Liberia's deputy incident management system leader Francis Keteh confirmed the new cases and said this brings to five the number of Liberians that have contacted the very contagious disease. He added that 11 high risk cases and 42 low risk cases who had all come in contact with the 17-year-old while he was ill have been quarantined and are beeing closely monitored.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17189564143635817032noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4555814188321743149.post-7168081664145193602015-07-09T21:37:00.000+01:002015-07-10T12:17:08.966+01:0020 Most Dangerous Bus Stops To Avoid In Lagos And Why
